Description



Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer - Lead Structural Analyst to join its Large Structures Analysis team within the Hardware Organization. This position is located in Linthicum, Maryland.

This position includes both leadership of analysts and direct execution of structural analysis projects on aerospace, shipboard, ground based, and space radar systems and structures.  Analysis tasks will encompass loads development, stress analysis (static and fatigue), and vibration analysis of metallic and composite structures.  Structural Lead tasks will include estimating, planning, staffing recommendations, preparation of deliverable documentation and statusing program customers.  Structural Leads are expected to work closely with Integrated Product Team (IPT) Leads to:  meet aggressive schedules, develop innovative solutions to complex technical problems, and advise program and functional management on technical risks and opportunities.  Staff Engineers are expected to work towards long term organizational goals, by improving processes, conducting research, and identifying efficiency and competitive advantage opportunities.



Qualifications



Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering.
  • Typical minimum structural analysis experience / education: 14 years with Bachelors in Science; 12 years with Masters.
  • Strong background in classical structural and finite element analysis including static, non-linear, modal, and vibration analysis.
  • Awareness for cost reduction and structural efficiency.
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance per business requirements.
  • Significant experience and comfort with FEA using MSC Partran/Nastran, FEMAP, or NX CAE/NX.Nastran
  • Significant experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience developing FEMs at the detail and assembly levels.
  • Structural project leadership or stress team leadership experience, with responsibility for multiple analysts work.
  • Comfort with presentation to internal and external customers.


 


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Active Secret/Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Experience with structural test applications.
  • Experience with DOD and/or FAA program structural load environmental requirements.
