Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is currently seeking a Lab Technician to join our team in Rocket Center, WV just outside of Cumberland, MD. The Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) site in Rocket Center designs, develops and manufactures tactical rocket motors, medium caliber ammunition, composite components and end items, and fuze and electronics equipment. For decades, the dedicated and highly skilled team at ABL have supported national security efforts by developing and building defense systems for DoD customers and U.S. allies.

Position Summary:

Performs a variety of technical procedures such as preparing routine solutions and reagents and performing routine reactions.
Makes and records observations; performs simple calculations; and collects and prepares data for evaluation.
Conducts laboratory support functions such as stocking and distributing supplies and equipment; arranging and dismantling apparatus; and collecting, washing, and storing glassware.
Performs technical and record keeping duties in conformance with company and regulatory policies and standards to meet quality and accuracy requirements.
Performs technical procedures in one or more of the following areas: Production, Research and Development, Quality Control/Assurance, and/or Compliance/Environmental.
Prepares ingredients for manufacturing propellants and explosives of various mix sizes
Assists in energetic development operations for warheads, munitions, and rocket motors
Assists in maintaining equipment and contribute to a clean and safe operating area
Handles explosive materials and liquid explosives on a daily basis (will be required)
Prepares chemical solutions used in production operations following established procedures
Documents work in notebook or manufacturing record
Supports and participates in various laboratory tasks as required

This position requires the ability to work 2nd Shift, 2:30PM-12:30AM


Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related work experience
Must be mechanically inclined with experience working on machinery, either at work or in extracurricular hobbies
This position supports production in a 24/7 manufacturing environment. Must be able to work 2nd shift, 2:30PM - 12:30AM.
Must be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret clearance; U.S. Citizenship is required
Must possess expertise and/or ability in the following skill areas: Manages complexity, Decision quality, Resourcefulness, Communicates effectively, Nimble learning
This position requires the ability to work 2nd Shift, 2:30PM-12:30AM
