Northrop Grumman Research & Technology (R&T) Cost Management Team is seeking a Sr Principal Budget Analyst for our Redondo Beach, CA facility to support the Core Vehicle Management System (VMS) portfolio.

This position will work closely with the Core VMS Director to meet the goals and objectives of the portfolio. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Compiling and reviewing budgets for corporate or organizational units using actual performance, previous budget figures, estimated revenue, expense reports, and other data sources to control funds and provide for proper financial administration

  • Prepares financial plans, prepares regular and special-purpose reports, maintains historical records, analyzes trends, establishes cost rates and personnel forecasts, recommends and interprets budgetary policies and procedures, prepares comparative evaluation of actual costs against budgeted funds, and determines rationale for variances between costs and budget

  • Prepares budgets for Non Contract Technical Activity (NCTA)/Capital work and performs and/or assists in financial analyses such as funding profiles and variance analysis

  • Assists in preparation of project plans to ensure requirements and statement of work are captured accurately

  • Performs risk assessments to identify and mitigate program cost and scheduling risks

  • Present major reviews to Executive level leadership


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree with 9 years of experience in Cost, Accounting, Economics, Finance, or Business related experience, or a Master's degree with 7 years of stated experience
  • Knowledge of SAP/Business Warehouse (BW) and Deltek Cobra
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); particularly Microsoft Excel (data retrieval and pivot tables)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Fundamental understanding of earned value management systems (EVMS) criteria/ guidelines; or Project Management experience with cost and schedule priorities
  • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Financial reporting and accounting principles
  • Ability to multi-task and work adhoc requests on short notice
  • Strong written, analytical and oral communication
