Description

Northrup Grumman is seeking Principal Engineer for Energetics Manufacturing for our Elk River, MN location.

Headquartered in Plymouth, Minnesota, Northrup Grumman is a leading innovator and producer of advanced weapons that provide the warfighter superior battlefield capabilities. Through its management of Americas largest, privately owned proving grounds, Armament Systems allows ATK and its customers the ability to rapidly test weapons and demilitarize them when necessary.


Position Description:
Provide overall technical leadership for our Load, Assemble, Pack (LAP) organization. Act as a Liaison Engineer to coordinate between Northrup Grumman internal functional disciplines including Program Personnel, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, LAP and Test. Create and publish all necessary documentation required to fulfill new program build requirements plus ensure all documentation is current and correct for all other builds.
Additional responsibilities include support completion of engineering projects within area of assigned responsibility. Ensures/ reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and related specifications. Applies knowledge of engineering and scientific methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems and Automation.


Typical Duties:
Typical duties will include but not be limited to the following:
Coordinates and/or provides Engineering interface to support Supply Chain, LAP operations, and provide technical disposition on non-conforming product from internal and external sources
Provide Engineering disposition on tooling and gages specific to Northrup Grumman product lines
Coordinate with Design and Project Engineering on design and/or manufacturability issues
Present Northrup Grumman technical image and act as a technical point of contact
Provide and publish proper build documentation to support assigned programs
Essential Functions:
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
Technical understanding of mechanical mechanisms, manufacturing processes, metal coatings, heat treatments and processing technologies and standard assembly processes.
Accountable for the successful completion of engineering projects.
Requires extensive regular contact with assigned project customers, both internal and external.
Assist in the preparation of engineering project proposals.
Budget monitoring and trend tracking.
Participate in customer meetings and resolving engineering and management project issues.
Ensure effective engineering and customer communications.

Qualifications

 

Basic Qualifications: 

BS degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing or Electrical Engineering, and 7+ years of experience with Manufacturing of mechanical devices, systems and automation.
Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED.
Demonstrated experience in manufacturing and production of mechanical components and/or automated systems.
Demonstrated experience in product design verification, inspection and non-conformance handling protocols.
Experience and proficiency in working with multiple projects.
Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Suite, including MS Project.

Preferred Qualifications:
Robot and PLC experience highly desirable.
Industrial line automation design and successful implementation highly desirable.

This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.
