The Mechanical Systems Engineer will work on all Spacecraft Structures and Payload mechanical hardware from requirements all the way through integration and test.

The candidate will perform detailed design tasks using Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other software tools to develop and document designs for manufacturing and ultimately assembly into spacecraft. The role involves interfacing and communicating with customers, program and functional management, other spacecraft engineering disciplines, and component suppliers.

The candidate will develop test plans and procedures and support structural testing at the component and spacecraft levels. Will also perform cost and schedule planning for projects and proposals.

Skills include, but not limited to, Computer Aided Design (CAD), knowledge of Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing (GD&T), 3D Printing, Design for Manufacturing, and Mechanics of Metallic and Composite Materials.




Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: 

A candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:


Be enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university AND graduating after August 2020.
Be majoring in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher (unofficial academic transcripts must be provided at time of application by uploading the documents to your application or profile)
Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2020
Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)

 
Preferred Qualifications: 
 
Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, preferably CREO.
Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards and preparation of manufacturing documentation.
Experience with 3D Printing, Design for Manufacturing, and hands-on fabrication.
Demonstrated leadership experience, preferably on university sponsored design projects or clubs.
Minimum overall GPA of 3.25
Prior internship or research experience in related field.
Proficiency in Microsoft office suite.
